Disciplines, system, programmes
Jeet Kune Do, Kali, Silat, Muay Thai and MMA are the school’s disciplines, each with its own history and technical heritage. The way Black Bull Academy brings them together is the school’s system: integrated martial arts, the “South-East Asian Mixed Martial Arts” Sifu Maximo speaks of. The training programmes (the adult class, Key Boxe for kids, women’s self-defence, private lessons, seminars) are the concrete paths through which this system is taught to different people.
Each discipline, one phase of the fight
- kicking and punching range: Jeet Kune Do and Muay Thai;
- weapons and improvised objects: Kali;
- trapping and clinch: Jeet Kune Do and Silat;
- throws, control and ground: Silat;
- linking every phase without interruption, from strike to grab to the ground: MMA.
The goal is a practitioner who can recognise the range, move from one phase to the next without hesitation and choose the response proportionate to the situation.
MMA for street self-defence
MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) was born as a combat sport combining striking, standing grappling and ground fighting. In the Black Bull programme mixed combat is trained for the street, where there are no rules, weight classes or referee, and where there may be a weapon or several attackers. That is why mixed work blends with Kali for weapons, with Silat for close range and with the Jeet Kune Do mindset: intercept, end the action, get to safety.
Anyone also interested in the sporting side can talk to the master, who will assess the most suitable path.
When and where
MMA is part of the adult class (13+) and is trained on both evenings, Monday with Jeet Kune Do and Muay Thai and Wednesday with Kali and Silat, 7:00 to 9:00 pm, at the Liceo Bagatta in Desenzano del Garda. It is included in the adult class membership. The first two trial lessons are free.
